Dr. Sara Pourshahrestani
Humboldt Research Fellowship
My research areas:
My research interests lie in the development of biomedical materials in various forms of particles, sponges, or hydrogels for hemostatic, wound healing and tissue engineering applications.
Home University / Research Institute:
University of Malaya, Malaysia
Host research group:
I am conducting my research supported by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Institute of Biomaterials at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering under supervision of Professor Aldo Boccaccini, Head of the institute.
Research period at the Faculty of Engineering, FAU:
01.06.2022-31.05.2024
What is the focus of your research during your visit?
My research fellowship project at the Institute of Biomaterials focuses on engineering of antibacterial mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticle-containing injectable hydrogels and assessing their potential via several physicochemical and biological methods for hemostatic and wound healing applications.
I choose FAU because:
FAU is one of the top research universities in Germany and has reputation in national and international level. The Institute of Biomaterials at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, FAU is also one of the well-established institutes in Germany which has attained an international reputation for research in the field of biomaterials science and tissue engineering. I believe that working in such leading university and under supervision of Professor Aldo Boccaccini, who is one of the world leaders in the field of biomaterials, will expand and deepen my research experience and knowledge in the area of biomedical materials.
